[Nashville, Tennessee, May 11, 2022] Women in Technology of Tennessee has partnered with Nashville State Community College to provide a $2,000 scholarship to female students looking to return to school.

The WiTT Nashville State Community College scholarship is designed to support women who demonstrate a passion for technology and are two or more years out from high school, home school or from receiving their GED. Up to two scholarships are available annually, and both are $2,000 awards.

Sasha Mullins Lassiter, a current undergraduate student pursuing her degree in cybersecurity at Nashville State Community College, received the scholarship in 2021 as second-year student. Receiving the scholarship opened the door to new opportunities for her education and career, allowing her to find new hope after facing discrimination in her former career.

“Since I was an adult who had never gone to college, it was a daunting mission,” Lassiter says. “But I was ready for it. I was incredibly focused, determined, and ready to begin a new chapter and new career direction.”

In addition to receiving funds for educational pursuits, each WiTT Nashville State Community College scholarship recipient also receives a free year of membership with WiTT. This membership offers access to professional development events and additional opportunities to network and grow in their field.

“There is an enormous opportunity to belong to a group of trail-blazing females in the technology sector,” Lassiter says. “The people that I have met, lift up one another and provide encouragement and great career advice.”

“No matter what your career level or education level, it is essential to surround yourself with like-minded, ambitious people who are encouraging and knowledgeable about your field of interest.”

Empowering the next generation of women in technology is part of WiTT’s mission. Since 1999, WiTT has hosted education and networking events, outreach opportunities and scholarship and internship programs that help members contribute to the success of the amazing women in our community. The organization understands the importance of community and equipping women throughout Middle Tennessee to shape the future of technology.

“WiTT sees scholarships as one of the most effective ways to impact our community and propel more women into tech careers. We award anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000 annually in scholarships to women at all stages of their educational journey,” WiTT President Amy Harris says. “Helping women like Sasha pursue their dreams is core to our mission, and we can’t wait to see what comes next for her.”
