Empowering Women in Technology

Women in Technology of Tennessee

Event

Tuesday January 26, 2009 — WiTT Meeting

Time: 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Topic: "Getting Taken Seriously - Women in the Technical World"

Speaker:  Jim Holmes - Owner, Sandler Training

Need to get your ideas accepted by your co-workers, your boss, other departments and their heads, and your customers? Had a great idea, shared it with the group, and had it ignored only to have someone else say the same thing minutes later and everyone act like it had never been said before and was the best idea since bread?  Ever had a client ask for someone "who knew something about IT" like you were not even there? Tired of your team not taking you seriously or having to say something multiple times before they accept it?
Come hear from one of those "MARS' people about how to communicate so you are taken seriously in our MARS dominated industry. While there are gender differences (are there ever), communication problems are not based on them. Often they are based upon our senses, our body language, our behavioral style, our birth order, and the words we use.
Learn your primary communication sense and style, 3 things to say that will quickly get you taken as the authority, 2 things we should never say (opposite of what polite southern women are taught), and the 1 thing we never do enough in our communication.
