Speaker: Cindy Frank, Director, Service Delivery and Project Management at Vanderbilt ITS.
Effective Cyberinfrastructure enables distributed knowledge communities to discover, teach, learn and care as they collaborate and communicate across disciplines, distances and culture.
Cindy Frank is responsible for assuring that the labor and investments in ITS more closely align with the mission and goals of the University. She manages a team of service delivery professionals who provide a single point of contact to each major operation within Vanderbilt as well as the project management office and multimedia services within ITS.
Cindy began her career at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt in 1988. She managed student and academic computing which included installation and management of desktop services and network administration. By 1994, she was responsible for all aspects of the business school's technology services where she promoted and managed support of technology for use in instruction, research, administration and collaboration. In 1996 she was invited and joined the exclusive ranks of the Business School Computing Directions forum which included the computing directors from the top 25 business schools in the nation.
In 1997, Cindy joined Academic Computing and Information Services, a central academic technology group at Vanderbilt. She worked on enterprise academic IT projects with a special focus on building working partnerships among IT professionals at the university. Her work with the colleges and schools as well as with administrative departments gave her unique insight into leveraging the distributed computing environment that was emerging at the time. As part of the newly formed Information Technology Services department in 2001, Cindy managed a team who designed and built a process for managing tiered support for ITS services in a distributed IT environment. IT project management efforts focused on the development of new initiatives like enhanced security for centralized enterprise authentication and enhancements to enterprise infrastructure services.
